Daycare project is announced to the public!

Away We Grow Child Care Inc. is thrilled to announce its plans to construct a brand-new, purpose-built childcare facility to address the growing need for licensed childcare in Melville. After exploring a range of options, the Board of Directors has determined that building a new facility is the most effective way to ensure long-term sustainability and meet the needs of local families.

With over 125 children currently on our waitlist, the demand for licensed childcare has reached a critical point—affecting not only families, but also workforce participation and economic growth across the region. The new facility will enable Away We Grow to more than double its current enrollment, increasing from 67 to 141 licensed spaces. It will also bring all of our staff and children back together in one cohesive space, all the while helping address the urgent shortage of childcare in our community. These spaces will be organized into two Early Learning Centres within the larger facility, offering children high-quality care in a modern, thoughtfully designed learning environment.

In addition to addressing space limitations, the need to relocate from the current facility has become urgent. The existing building's age and design pose increasing challenges in meeting regulatory standards and maintaining a safe, functional space. A new, modernized facility will ensure compliance with current childcare regulations, while enhancing the overall experience for children and staff.

Location details are currently being finalized and will be shared once confirmed.

To make this vision a reality, Away We Grow is launching a major fundraising initiative. The goal is to raise $2 million through community fundraisers, corporate sponsorships, and grants. This will supplement committed government funding and the organization's own contributions. Government funding for these new spaces is provided through the Canada-Saskatchewan Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement, which provides an investment of nearly $1.1 billion over five years for child care in Saskatchewan. (required wording from Ministry for media release).

Away We Grow has always remained deeply committed to supporting families in Melville, and the new facility represents a vital step forward—not only for the daycare itself, but for the broader community. By increasing capacity, improving accessibility, and creating a modern space that meets current standards, this project will have a lasting impact on children, parents, and local employers alike.

The first major fundraiser will be a Family Golf Tournament and raffle draw set for the end of May, kicking off a series of events designed to bring families together while supporting this transformative project.

Corporate sponsorship opportunities are now open. Businesses that partner with Away We Grow will not only help address a pressing community need but also play a meaningful role in supporting the future of Melville’s economy and workforce.
